Where it is

For this guide the area runs north of U.S. 17 between Mathis Ferry Road’s southern end, where Remley’s Point begins, and I-526, out to the creeks and the river. The boundary lines are ours, drawn along those roads; the names come from the town and OpenStreetMap. Mathis Ferry Road is the spine, with Shelmore Boulevard, Von Kolnitz Road and Wando Park Boulevard off it.

OpenStreetMap places a string of named neighborhoods here, among them I’On, Olde Park, Hobcaw Point, Hobcaw View, Heron Pointe, Somerset Point, Wakendaw Lakes and Green Hill Park. The town’s land use plan names I’On and Shelmore Village as hubs. The county library’s Mount Pleasant branch is on Mathis Ferry Road, and Lucy Garrett Beckham High is farther out the same road, just past I-526.

The town’s Settlement Communities report includes Greenhill: in 1870, freedman Hardy Green bought 30 acres along Mathis Ferry Road. Greenhill got electricity in 1942 and paved roads in 1951 and was annexed into Mount Pleasant in 1983, the report says. The town’s Green Hill Park community center is at 707 York St.
