Where it is
For this guide the area runs south of U.S. 17 (Johnnie Dodds Boulevard) from Charleston Harbor and the Ravenel Bridge east to Bowman Road, leaving out the Old Village historic district, which has its own page. The boundary lines are ours, drawn along those roads; the names come from the town. Main roads are Coleman Boulevard, Chuck Dawley Boulevard, Ben Sawyer Boulevard (S.C. 703), Houston Northcutt Boulevard and Mathis Ferry Road’s southern end.
The town’s zoning map marks this as its most-planned stretch. It has five neighborhood preservation overlays, labeled Old Mount Pleasant, Shemwood, Cooper Estates, Bayview Acres and The Groves, on its zoning map service, alongside mixed-use overlays for Moultrie Plaza and Sea Island and a 209-acre Houston Northcutt redevelopment center. Its land use plan names Coleman a neighborhood-scale hub and Sea Island and Mt. Pleasant Square community-scale hubs.
