Four barbecue places in Mount Pleasant, on Shem Creek, Houston Northcutt Boulevard, Highway 17 North and Highway 41, with hours from their own websites.
Last checked Oct. 16, 2026. Refreshed every three months.
Mount Pleasant has four barbecue places, spread across town instead of in one cluster: one on Shem Creek, one on Houston Northcutt Boulevard near Coleman Boulevard, and two in the north end, on Highway 17 North and Highway 41.
How we made this list. The places come from OpenStreetMap records inside Mount Pleasant, the same data behind our local directory, checked against each place’s own website on Oct. 16, 2026. We added Melvin’s BBQ, which its own site lists at a Mount Pleasant address and which has a 2026 record in the SC Food Grades database. The list is alphabetical. It is not a ranking or a recommendation, and nobody paid to be on it. Run one of these places? Write to us to correct your entry.

The places
Home Team BBQ is a Charleston-area barbecue restaurant whose north Mount Pleasant menu lists pulled pork, chopped brisket, St. Louis-cut ribs and smoked chicken wings. Its site describes oversized picnic tables, six extra-large TVs, room for families and a 20-foot community table out front. The full menu runs until 10 p.m., and a limited late-night menu runs until midnight.
Melvin’s BBQ says it is South Carolina’s original family of mustard-based barbecue, established in 1939, and that “the secret is in the sauce.” The Mount Pleasant restaurant on Houston Northcutt Boulevard shares its hours with the family’s James Island location and offers online ordering and catering.
Saltwater Cowboys has been on Shem Creek since 2017 and describes itself as a waterfront restaurant known for seafood, slow-smoked barbecue and cocktails, with sunset views over the creek. Its site says it has a waterfront bar and dog-friendly spaces, hosts live music and offers a dog treat menu.
Swig & Swine smokes its barbecue over hardwoods, according to its site, and runs locations in West Ashley, Summerville and Moncks Corner as well as on Highway 41 in Mount Pleasant. It is open seven days a week and caters on-site and off-site events.
