New Year’s Eve is Thursday, Dec. 31, 2026, and New Year’s Day is Friday, Jan. 1, 2027. The Town of Mount Pleasant does not hold a New Year’s Eve event or fireworks show: neither appears on its list of annual events. The night belongs to Shem Creek’s restaurants and bars, the breweries and a few venues around town. We will add 2026 parties here as venues post them.

  • Holiday Festival of Lights, closing night. The county’s light show at James Island County Park, 871 Riverland Drive, Charleston, runs its last night on Dec. 31, from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Tickets are per vehicle; see the festival site and our holiday lights page.
  • Miracle @ SWC, final night. Saltwater Cowboys’ holiday pop-up bar on Shem Creek, 130 Mill St., runs through Dec. 31, open until midnight, according to its Miracle page.

Hobcaw Brewing’s noon start in 2025 was the one daytime party on the town’s list. Leashed dogs are welcome in Hobcaw’s outdoor spaces, it says; its regular hours are noon to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and it is closed Mondays. The Festival of Lights, open until 10 p.m. on Dec. 31, is the other family pick.

New Year’s Day, Friday, Jan. 1, 2027

  • Trash: the town’s 2027 waste calendar was not out as of Oct. 16. On the 2026 calendar, New Year’s Day was a holiday with Town Hall closed and no garbage or trash collection. Call 843-849-2022 the week before.
  • Mount Pleasant Pier: closed on New Year’s Day, and on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, according to Charleston County Parks.
  • Schools: Charleston County School District’s winter break runs Dec. 21 to Jan. 1. Monday, Jan. 4, is a teacher workday; students return Tuesday, Jan. 5, according to the 2026-27 calendar.
